Lowering the Temperature at O’Hare

NTEU has stepped up its campaign to cool things off at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

NTEU Chapter 331 (TSA Chicago) has repeatedly documented extremely hot conditions in the airport’s baggage facilities and has approached management to offer solutions to the problem, including lowering air vents and installing freezer curtains.

”This issue has been going on for several years and, until NTEU came along, nobody had the clout to address it,” said Chapter 331 Interim Vice President Lauro Colon.

NTEU also pointed to the excessive heat in the O'Hare baggage facilities during a recent congressional hearing on federal employee safety issues. One of the lawmakers on the committee, Rep. Danny Davis (D-Ill.), responded by contacting the Federal Security Director at O'Hare to demand improved working conditions.

“NTEU Chapter 331 (TSA Chicago) officers discussed with your safety officer many ways to improve the temperature and air quality of the baggage areas,” Davis said. “I urge you to find a way to implement these suggestions. These issues need to be addressed without delay.”

NTEU will continue to press forward on this issue until the situation has improved.
